Terms of Use

Please read these terms before you rely on a check.

Who We Are

Mboni is run by Vibrant Consult.

We are only the app. We provide the software that lets an organisation issue IDs to its people and lets anyone check one. We are not the organisation that issued an ID, and we are not the employer, agent, partner or guarantor of anyone shown in a check. We are not part of any dealing between you and that person or organisation.

What a Check Tells You

A confirmed check means one thing: the organisation named issued this ID, and the person it names approved the check with their own PIN. It is only as reliable as the organisation's own records and the way the person guards their PIN and phone.

A check does not prove that a person is honest, that a product or service is real, that anyone owns what they offer, or that a dealing is safe. Use your own judgement.

No Guarantees

Mboni is provided as it is, with no promise that it is accurate, complete, always available or free of errors. We do not guarantee any person, organisation, result or outcome.

Limits of Our Responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using Mboni or relying on a check. That includes loss from a wrong or out of date record, an ID or phone that was misused, a message that did not arrive, the service being down, or anything that happens between you and another person or organisation. Nothing here removes a right the law says cannot be removed.

Organisations

An organisation that issues IDs is responsible for the records it holds, for who it issues IDs to, and for withdrawing an ID when it should stop working. Its use of Mboni is also covered by the plan and terms it agreed when it signed up.

Phone Fingerprint Lock

If your organisation offers it, you may lock your ID to your phone's fingerprint or face unlock. Your phone does the check and we never receive your fingerprint. You are responsible for who has access to that phone. If it is lost or changed, tell your organisation so the lock can be reset. A phone lock proves a check came from that phone, not that the person holding it is you.

Acceptable Use

Do not use it to harass anyone, to guess codes, to copy its data, or to report someone you do not honestly believe is an impostor. We may limit or block use that looks like abuse.
